8 Black-Owned Fashion Brands To Support Right Now

I’ve been practicing self-care since the recent event that occurred in Minneapolis. Now that I’m done crying (hopefully) every day (but still extremely hurt) about the killing of George Floyd, I’d like to discuss some actions we can take to support black people. Supporting black businesses is something I’ve always stood for as it enhances black communities and I’m just naturally attracted to businesses created by people that look like what I see in the mirror. Below are 8 black-owned fabulous fashion brands to support right now.

You can also check out this resource list created by Botanical Dyke for petitions, ways to support organizations that are fighting issues affecting black people, or if you’re a protestor seeking legal help.

If you’d like to hear me chat about these brands take a peek at the video below.

Now on to the fab fashion brands owned by such creative black beings!

Nene LA Shiro

You may know Nate White for his amazing NeNe LA Shiro designs filled with dazzling ruffles, sequins, mesh and rhinestones. His custom pieces have been worn by Nicki Minaj, Ashanti, Cardi B, Winnie Harlow and many more. Because Nate made me feel like star at my Senior Ball 6 years ago in a custom mesh and sequin attire, I had to kick off my list with Nene LA Shiro.

We love a fashion creative with a sense of humor! If you haven’t seen his hilarious Tik Tok videos, you definitely need to check him out.

Cushnie

I’ve loved Cushnie’s designs for years! From the flow of her pieces to her incredible use of silk, I can’t ever get enough of Cushnie!

Je Suis

What I love most about Je Suis is that every single item is hand made by Senami Atinkpahoun. As a Benin woman, a lot of her pieces are created with ankara fabric and so much more. She’s basically the go-to for ankara dresses. Je Suis also offers ankara masks so you can head outside for essentials in style.

Fe Noel

I love every piece that Fe Noel creates! EVERY SINGLE ONE!! From her use of color to the incredible silhouette, I love them all.

Nichole Lynel

Nichole Lynel is one of my favorite Los Angeles based fashion brands! Whether you enjoy monochroming, color blocking, dressing in bold hues or keeping it chill while lounging, NL features a variety of styles.

Twelve AM

I couldn’t create this list without mentioning shoes! Created by Los Angeles based shoe lover Aerial Lomack, this brand is a mule lover’s dream. Besides diamonds, shoes are a girl’s best friend! I love a great clear heel because it’s super easy to pair with almost anything!

Victor Glemaud

I feel late to the party as I became familiar with Victor Glemaud just a couple of years ago when I attended his presentation and immediately fell in love with his use of bold hues.

Pyer Moss

What I love most about the ever-so-outspoken Kerby Jean-Raymond is that he mostly (if not only)uses black models for Pyer Moss. I fell in love with his Collection 3 fashion show which featured a black choir and a runway filled with black models. It was just so….. black and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

Which black owned fashion brand is your favorite?
