I’ve wanted to brunch at The Smith for years. The midtown staple’s previous green stripe exterior initially caught my eye 8-10 years ago. I knew I had to check it out at some point, but I kept forgetting. When my best friend, Marllory said she wants to do brunch at midtown, I sent her a list. The Smith was included in the list and my emphasis of my interest in going to The Smith for years led her to believe our choice was a no-brainer. The decade-long interest was the perfect spot for our December brunch but was it worth the wait?
Oysters: 7/10
I tried oysters for the first time and although I can understand why others may love it, it’s just not for me as it taste like mussels but slimier. Although it’s not the best texture for my palette, Marllory loved it. She’s an oyster connoisseur. If you’re into oysters, you might love it too.
Potato Waffle Benny: 9/10 | French Fries: 10/10
As a lover of eggs benedict, I had to try the potato waffle benny which is basically a smoked salmon eggs benedict on a waffle! I loved it! I typically stay away from waffles because it may keep me from reaching my fitness goals sooner but I figured why not give this meal a try?! I’ve never had eggs benedict on a waffle before. This one time shouldn’t hurt and it didn’t. The guilt-free waffle was not super sweet. I’m grateful and enjoyed every bit of it.
Steak & Eggs: 7/10
Marllory had the steak and eggs, which she enjoyed, although she requested that the steak was medium cooked, yet it arrived medium rare. Marllory is not a picky eater so she ate the steak as it was presented to her but I’m sure that could be a problem for someone that is more specific about the way they eat.
Hot Fudge Sundae: 9.5/10 | Sticky Toffee: 10/10 | Apple Tart: 9/10
For dessert, we had the hot fudge sundae, sticky toffee, and apple tart. The hot fudge sundae scared me because I felt my 6-pack abs goals slipping away from me but the hot fudge is separate (thank God) so I had the sundae without the chocolate. All the desserts were delicious. I typically stay away from desserts but this was a nice treat that led me to eat air for the next few days.
I was just talking about how wearing sweaters with maxi skirts is perfect for this holiday season with all the extra eating that most people do. It’s my current uniform. For some reason, I opted for a brown midi dress with a brown crochet jacket. At the end of the meal, I was rethinking my outfit choice until I realized that my stomach didn’t bulge as I thought it would.
I really enjoyed my time at The Smith not only because the food was good, but also because most importantly, the service was amazing! I was treated very well from the moment I entered the establishment until the moment I left.
