The Black in Fashion Council Will Increase Diversity in Fashion and Beauty

It warms my heart to see Lindsay Peoples and Sandrine Charles announce the Black in Fashion Council. I first encountered Lindsay’s work back in 2018, when she interviewed a wide range of Black voices in the fashion industry, capturing with raw honesty what it’s really like to navigate that space. The piece resonated deeply with me – I felt seen in many ways, and I shared it widely at the time. Seeing Lindsay now team up with Sandrine to launch the Black in Fashion Council is thrilling – it’s a long time coming, and exactly what the industry needed.

With pro-Blackness trending, there’s been no shortage of lip service from brands claiming they “stand with us.” Yet the same companies rarely hire Black talent, and the few who do often find themselves in environments that feel anything but safe. I’m genuinely excited to see the Black in Fashion Council step in to hold fashion and beauty companies accountable – demanding not just equitable hiring practices, but a culture where Black people can thrive without fear.
