Lauren Sanchez’s Inauguration Fashion Faux Pas

Lauren Sanchez opted for a white suit to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration, and so many are up in arms about her look. Styled by Kelly Johnson, the Alexander McQueen suit was previously worn by the author and journalist when she spoke at the Forbes Power Women’s Summit on September 11, 2024. Is re-wearing an outfit the fashion faux pas, or does this particular style lead to raised eyebrows?

Although I love the fantasy of fashion, what I love even more is when we get realistic about how often we wear our clothes. People re-wear their clothes quite often, and that’s okay. You’re supposed to get your money’s worth out of every item you own. Most people don’t have romantic partners who are billionaires, so society expects those in the highest tax bracket to always step out with a new look that has not been seen. It’s refreshing that Sanchez felt comfortable enough to wear the McQueen suit 4 months later even though she’s engaged to Jeff Besos and can afford whichever suit she wants.

My rule for re-wearing an outfit is to wear it to a completely different type of environment. If I wear a look to an event, I may wear it for grocery shopping and running errands the following month instead of wearing it to another high-profile event where I would be photographed. This keeps me looking fabulous while picking up my fruits and veggies and continuing to put my clothes to use. I previously wore a red pleated dress to film a Best Worst Dressed video, and then I threw it back on to check out a few sessions during Advertising Week the following month and spoke about re-wearing it during a YouTube Shorts video.

The real issue is that Sanchez should have opted for a button-down shirt to wear underneath the blazer instead of allowing her lingerie to show at a Presidential Inauguration. There’s a time and place for everything, and this is not the time nor the place to intentionally showcase a part of your lingerie, as business attire is required for the gathering. Stylists tend to be blamed for a public figure’s look but, I can’t blame Kelly Johnson as she styled Sanchez in this look for the Lincoln Center Forbes event 4 months ago. Sanchez decided to re-wear the look to yesterday’s formal event.

The faux pas is not re-wearing the attire. The only issue here is that her look was inappropriate for a Presidential Inauguration.

The dress that Lauren Sanchez wore is not the right outfit for the occasion. The occasion is corporate…. Trump’s inauguration. It will be televised all over the world, this shows that she’s not an intellectual. Thanks Oyin
