10 Black-Owned Beauty Brands To Support

10 Black Owned Beauty Brands to Support - Befitting Style

Whether you’re a makeup lover or a skincare addict, beauty is so much fun to play with. I kicked off my black owned series discussing black-owned fashion brands and now its time to talk beauty. This may sound surprising but I don’t dabble in skincare that much. I find that keeping it minimal works for my skin but there are a couple of skincare companies that caught my eye. If you’re not new to Befitting Style, then you already know how much I love to play in makeup.

While supporting black-owned businesses and building the black economy, please also support the organizations fighting inequality by checking out this national resource list that includes petitions and legal services for protesters.

If you’d like to hear me chat about black owned beauty brands, take a peek at the video below.

Now onto these awesome black owned beauty brands!

Alaffia

I became familiar with Alaffia a couple of weeks ago while grocery shopping at Whole Foods. I stumbled upon their pure unrefined shea butter and knew I had to grab it. I usually use shea butter from Ghana so I thought it would be cool to try shea butter from Togo. The scent is mild unlike the shea butter I’ve used in the past. Although this is the only product I’ve tried from the brand, I’m considering trying the Coconut Face Cleanser.

Pat McGrath

I absolutely love Pat McGrath’s makeup line! It’s addictive and luxurious as I always feel rich while wearing her products. My favorites includes her foundation, setting powder, eyeshadow quad, and I recently fell in love with her mascara.

Beauty Bakerie

I’ve been familiar with Beauty Bakerie for years but I haven’t tried any of her products yet. I can’t wait to play in her Brownie Bar as well as the lippies! What I love most about the brand is the beautiful aesthetic that makes me feel like I’m stepping into a world of sweet delicious makeup that’s not only fun to play with but also enticing to look

Fenty Beauty

When Fenty Beauty launched a few years ago, I was hooked! I bought every new release. I’ve purchased more items from Fenty Beauty than any other beauty brand. My favorite pink highlighter is “wattabrat” and I use “Unveil” and “Uncuffed” for almost every nude lippie.

Coloured Raine

What I love most about Coloured Raine is that all the employees are black. A lot of companies in fashion and beauty tend to have a low (sometimes non-existent) percentage of black employees and a high percentage of white employees. We must support Coloured Raine because Coloured Raine supports us by pouring back into the community with an all-black staff.

Mented Cosmetics

Founded by KJ Miller and Amanda E Johnson, Mented Cosmetics consists of a mostly black team. It’s vegan, paraben-free and cruelty free. Not only does Mented Cosmetics offer makeup, but they also offer nail polishes.

Moon X

I beam with pride while talking about Moon X because I am thoroughly impressed by this entire company. This empire in the making is owned by a 20-year-old black woman who made 1 million dollars in 8 minutes. Marie is a force to be reckoned with and I’m so excited about how big Moon X will be within a decade.

Uoma Beauty

Created by Sharon Cutler a year ago, I view Uoma Beauty in a different light as Sharon is the driving force behind Pull Up For Change influencing brands (mostly beauty) to share the demographics of their staff and work towards having an increased amount of black staff in corporate and executive levels.

IMAN COSMETICS

Iman is iconic and one of the first makeup that I ever used is the Iman Bronzer. It feels like everyone is so used to using trendy makeup but we must always give credit where credit is due. Iman created a cosmetics line during a time when there was barely any makeup for dark skin women.

The Lip Bar

Known for the beautiful bold hues, The Lip Bar has always stood out to me. During my early 20s, I was surrounded by many who used the bold Lip Bar lippies. What started off as just a lipstick company now offers foundation, eyeshadow, brushes, liners and more.
