I was so excited to kick off spring by celebrating Maoly and Kevin’s 10-year anniversary party. If you’re not new to Befitting Style, you’ ve probably read about my best friend Marllory a few times from our brunch outings to birthday celebrations. With Maoly being Marllory’s younger sister, it warms my heart to watch her celebrate love. Being well dressed is very important to me as it’s a part of the effort that I put into my appearance. Effort always matters. When I was invited to the anniversary party, I was hoping its a surprise wedding because Maoly and Kevin were already engaged. All that was left for them to do is simply tie the knot. Because I was unsure of whether the spring gathering would be a wedding, I kept it simple and safe with a blue romper.

The morning of the festivities was filled with getting ready for the anniversary party and chatting on the phone with Marllory. If she didn’t remind me that the dress code is blue, I would have worn something completely different. With no time to find a gown, I proceeded with a blue romper. I thought to myself, “It’s an anniversary party. Although I would prefer wearing a dress, I should be fine with this attire.” I was wrong!

As I exited the elevator, I was greeted by a mirror that read, “Welcome to our happily ever after.” I began wondering if this could be a surprise wedding. Once I walked down the hall and saw some family members, after greeting Marllory’s mom and her best friend, I saw Marllory, then Maoly pops up dressed in a gorgeous white gown and it was in that moment that I knew, something was up.

She showed me her ring and said they got married and this is the surprise reception. My heart was beaming with joy! It was the best day!

Everyone was dressed in blue, Maoly dazzled in white and her husband, Kevin in a black suit. It was perfect. The perfect space. The perfect intimate gathering filled with trivia games and laughter. The perfect wedding gown.

It doesn’t take much for me to be excited, so I tried my hardest to contain my joy. If I was 100% sure that I would be walking into a wedding, I would have released some of the joy at home, which would keep me from being overjoyed at the wedding. One thing led to another and I found myself saying a short speech about how much I love the family and how happy I am about the union because Maoly is amazing and Kevin is great. Next thing you know, I’m hugging Kevin on the podium while telling Maoly that if I hug her, I will cry. I almost cried, but I held it together. I truly love celebrating people. It was the best day! If I could celebrate people for a living, I’d be the happiest girl on earth.

The only thing I would change is choosing an attire that’s a better fit for the occasion. A blue gown would have been perfect!
