Sports Illustrated is known for their coveted magazine but they recently launched their swim line during Miami Swim Week! Because their cover girls tend to sizzle in bikinis, I expected two things: sexy and sporty. It’s been a long time coming and I’m actually surprised that they waited this long to start a swimwear line.
What I love most about it is how inclusive it is. Created for women of many sizes, the bathing suits were created with real women in mind, which comes at no surprise as Sports Illustrated has showcased plus-sized models in the past with Robyn Lawley being their first swimsuit model in 2015 and more recently Ashley Graham. When I say real women, I’m referring to women of all sizes (exceeding size 12) since the average size of a woman in America is a size 16, I think fashion should follow suit on the runway, not just in stores.
It’s so befitting for some of the swimwear to be sportswear inspired! When I’m not dolled up, I’m comfy in my athletic wear. It’s refreshing to see some sports infused swimwear.
The velvet pieces definitely made the swim line stand out from the rest.
