Because wearing prints is my habitat, wearing an ankara print is comfortable for me. Ankara is worn constantly by Nigerians and I’m constantly buying fabric because I never know when I may randomly want to create something.Whenever I come up with an idea, I want it when I want it. It may sound a little spoiled but thats how I am and I believe in taking the necessary steps in order to bring it to fulfillment. Because I didn’t care to wait for someone to make the the skirt for me, I made it myself. Theres a sense of fulfillment and beauty in creating. Just knowing that no one else has this piece because its custom made, makes me love it even more.
I originally wanted the skirt to be long but because long ankara skirts are trending, I decided to make mine just below the knee.
For Day 3 of NYFWM, I viewed the Nick Graham presentation which is my favorite of the season. The other collections that I viewed included Kenneth Ning, Feng Chen Wang, Zachary Prell and Thorsun.
I paired the ankara skirt with a salmon pink crop top infused with subtle red stripes.
Accessorizing with a gold necklace and wearing the same ankara fabric on my head as a mini gele was a no brainer.
Completed this look with a salmon pink and orange-red heel as well as my favorite Kate Spade clutch that I wear all the time.
