I Wore My Skirt As A Top | NYFW SS18 Day 1

I love to improvise and look for other ways to wear pieces that I already own. I have an idea of what I’m wearing for the most of this season of NYFW but Day 1 left me stumped. So I reached for an old skirt from college and instantly envisioned it being a top. This is how I ended up wearing my skirt as a top.

I honestly don’t remember owning this top (talkless of even wearing it) but I found it when I reorganized my clothes during the beginning of this year and realized that even though it’s a high low skirt (loved high low skirts in college), it can definitely come in handy as a top.

Pre-NYFW was pretty hectic for me so I needed a quick hairstyle. I opted for a high braided ponytail because it’s one of the quickest hairstyles to achieve.

I paired the top with high waist khaki-like shorts.

It rained on and off throughout the day. With the Harlem Fashion Row Awards and Fashion Show being held during the evening, the rain was quite a challenge while heading to the event but we pulled through.

Sticking to my shades of brown, I wore taupe open toe sandals with a fringe straw bag.

How do you improvise with your clothes?

What a great look! You basically turned it into a poncho! I really like the shades of brown with the turquoise in your earrings! I once turned my button down shirts into a sleeveless top by tying the sleeves at my waist.

    1. LOL your ideas are awesome! As creatives, we always come up with different ways to wear clothes. I love it!

  2. Super cute! I can’t even imagine this as a skirt to be totally honest. I’ve certainly turned skirts into dresses or borrow my fiance’s clothes for an oversized look.

    1. Yesss! A male shirt provides the perfect oversized button down look…as well as going a few sizes up in button downs for women

  3. Love it! I don’t think I would have ever thought to turn clothes into another use. I have taken old clothes from the thrift store and tailored them into something new. Thanks for the post!

  4. I love the look! Isn’t it amazing how versatile that skirt became? Your hairstyle is also beautiful! How did others react to your outfit? Did anyone realize the top was really a skirt?

    1. Thank you! No one realized that it’s really a skirt lol

  5. What a cute look! I once turned a couple of maxi skirt into a Halloween costume. But I’m not sure I’d be bold enough to wear something like this!
