With all the police brutality occurring in America and terror attacks occurring heavily outside of the country, its very easy to feel down and even lose hope in the world due to its adversaries. When I think about what going on, it upsets me even to the point that it started taking my joy away. I couldn’t have a full conversation about these tragedies without getting emotional about it so I refrained from speaking on the matter on social media. Every time I opened up snapchat to truly speak on how I feel on the matter, I would always end up closing the app in an effort to refrain from speaking emotionally. My mom realized how this was affecting me and with some great pep talk, I was able to shake it off and continue being the jovial outgoing individual that I am. I threw on an orange off the shoulder top and proceeded to celebrate my friend’s birthday.
During these situations, its important to take action because being sad doesn’t solve any problem at hand. One can take action by joining Black Lives Matter and protesting or donating to the families of those who lost loved ones in this crazy world that we live in due to police brutality.
It baffles me when some people get offended at those who are being pro black and respond by saying “All lives matter”. The reality is all lives can’t matter until black lives matter. Too many instances have proven that black lives don’t matter to bad cops who are killing black people for no reason at all. Being pro black does not mean that you are against other races. It just means that you are “pro self” and there is absolutely nothing wrong with having such a great amount of self love that you find beauty in what you look like (and who you are) without discriminating those who look different.
My mom reminded me to never let anything/anyone take away my joy.
Joy will keep us going during these times. Having faith that things will get better brings great hope for the future. Never lose your faith and joy. Its imperative.
